Abstract:

A method for oxidizing primary amino alcohol, primary or secondary alkenol or alkynol to the corresponding acid or ketone, wherein a primary amino alcohol, a primary or secondary alkenol or alkynol as a substrate is oxidized to the corresponding ketone in the presence of an equimolar amount or a molar excess, based on the alcoholic hydroxyl groups, of periodate, catalytic amounts of dichromate or CrO₃, and in the presence of an acid, in water, a water/solvent mixture or in a solvent at a temperature of -20° C. to +50° C. to give the corresponding acid or corresponding ketone.
