Abstract:
PURPOSE:To efficiently remove a protecting group by treating a beta-lactam compound having carboxyl protected with a substituted or unsubstituted allyl with a Pd catalyst in the presence of an allyl group scavenger. CONSTITUTION:A p-lactam compound-expressed by the formula (R is allyl; R<1> and R<2> are organic groups; X is CH2CH2, SCH2, OCH2, S, O, etc.; Y is S, O or single bond), etc., and having carboxyl protected with a substituted or unsubstituted allyl is treated in a water-containing organic solvent (e.g. ethanol- water) in the presence of an allyl group scavenger using a catalyst [e.g. tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(O)] under cooling to heating, e.g. at 30-100 deg.C to remove the substituted or unsubstituted allyl group. The [3-lactam compound is useful as a fungicide or its protodrug or synthetic intermediate thereof.
