Abstract:
PURPOSE: To increase a cutting amount into ice by an apparatus wherein high pressure water can be jetted from a position close to the ice.
CONSTITUTION: The first arm 1 is projected from a hull 1 and freely folded by a hydraulic mechanism. The second arm 3 is rotatably joined with the end of the first arm 2 via an articulated mechanism 5 which includes a spring mechanism to restore the turning of the second arm 3. Thus, the second arm 3 is rotated with respect to the undulation 7 on the surface of ice by an arrangement of the articulated mechanism 5 and then instantaneously restored to the original position. High pressure water is jetted from a nozzle 6 attached to the end of the second arm 3 to bore holes in the ice and break it.
