To provide an idling control device for an internal combustion engine more efficiently and effectively suppressing occurrence of misfire at a time of fail of a valve timing variable mechanism in an internal combustion engine provided with the valve timing variable mechanism and an operating angle variable mechanism.
This device is applied to an internal combustion engine provided with the intake side valve timing variable mechanism and the operating angle variable mechanism varying valve timing and valve operating angle of an intake valve respectively. This device performs ISC control and idling-up to increase target idling speed by ISC control at a time of advancement failure. When valve operating angle of the intake valve is small (S104:YES/S108:YES), increase quantity of target idling speed in idling up is set small as compared with a case that valve operating angle of the intake valve is large (S104:NO/S108:NO).
