To provide an image input/output apparatus which performs scan which skips the base level in one scan, and performs treatment suitable for a color image in the case that an image to be scanned is a color image and treatment suitable for a monochrome image in the case that an image to be scanned is a monochrome image, by one scan.
The image input/output apparatus has an image input means for inputting a luminance signal into a memory, a base level detecting means for detecting the level of the base of the input image, an image printing/outputting means for outputting the image on the memory by printing, and a base removing means for transferring an image in the memory to the image printing/outputting means while removing the base of the image based on the detected base level.
