To provide an image data receiver by which part of a background image is updated without causing any hindrance to remote control to an image pickup device of a transmitter side.
An image pickup range by a video camera is sequentially changed by remote control and each image is synthesized and images as to all image pickup enable ranges are used for a background image and it is synthesized with a background image pattern and the result is displayed. In the case of remotely controlling an image pickup range of the video camera from the image data receiver, till an image corresponding to a designated range this time is received, a background image in a new camera frame within the designated range this time is displayed reversely to display it in the background image while distinguishing it from a camera frame 158 of the preceding designation range. Moreover, bit map data of a main image newly received in a range of the new camera frame are used to update the background image at the corresponding position. Thus, the newest background image, though partially, is provided to the user.
