PURPOSE: To obtain a display apparatus with extremely simple structure and lightweight and thin-type by installing cylindrical parts which are coated with a fluorescent material in some parts and arranged between play parts of which at least one is transparent and installing a means to deflect and radiate an electron beam to the cylindrical part.

CONSTITUTION: A beam is drawn out by applying electricity to a linear cathode 5 to heat it and modulating and applying image signal for 1 line of an image simultaneously by a beam drawing cathode 6 to a Y electrode 4 by beam modulating electrode 7. When different voltage Va and Vb are applied to odd and even lines respectively, periodic electric field is generated up and down direction in the electrode 4 and the beam is led downward among the neighboring cylindrical parts 3. At the forth line, when +dV and -dV are overlaid respectively to voltage Va and Vb temporally, 2.dV voltage difference is caused between the parts 3 and beam is deflected and radiated to the side plane of the part 3 at the fifth line so as to make the phosphor applied thereon emit luminescence. Vertical scanning and consequently image display can thus be carried out by successively repeating this operation in each line.
