To provide an image forming apparatus for precisely aligning fronts and rears when printing on both surfaces of recording materials, and to provide a method of forming images.
The image forming apparatus includes: a line head in which a plurality of light-emitting elements are arranged in a first direction; a latent image support body; a transfer section for transferring a latent image to the recording material; and a fixing section for thermally fixing the recording material to which the latent image has been transferred. Also, the image forming apparatus includes: a storage section 12g for storing information on variations in the size of the thermally fixed recording material; a screen processing section 12b for performing screen processing of image data, based on information stored in the storage section; and an image position correction section 12d for correcting the position of data subjected to the screen processing. Information, which is detected by a detection section 39 at a print reference position (crossmark) formed on a paper sheet, is used to correct size and image data positions in print of a second surface.
