After detection of the occurrence of the failure inside an image forming apparatus, the number of times of a cover which is to be opened by a user in order to eliminate the occurring failure is opened and closed is counted and then the image forming apparatus switches to a notifying screen to notify the failure to the user according to the counted number of opening and closing. More specifically, when the number of opening and closing is fewer than a prescribed number, a first indication screen S1 indicating which cover the user is to open to eliminate the failure. When the number of opening and closing is the prescribed number of times or more, a second indication screen S2 indicating a part which is a cause for occurring failure and which part the user is to operate to eliminate the occurring failure.
