To provide an image forming apparatus capable of controlling whether or not to continue driving input to a photoreceptor in accordance with the rotating state of the photoreceptor or controlling whether or not to perform abutting operation of the photoreceptor on an image carrier in accordance with the rotating state of the photoreceptor, with simple constitution.

The image forming apparatus includes: the photoreceptor 1; an electrifying member 2 electrifying the photoreceptor; a voltage applying means V1 applying voltage to the electrifying member; and image forming means 3 and 4 forming an image on the photoreceptor electrified by the electrifying member, and includes: a current detection means V2 detecting current flowing in a case where predetermined voltage is applied to the electrifying member when starting image forming processing; and a control means 50 controlling whether or not to continue the driving input to the photoreceptor based on output from the current detection means.
