To provide an image forming apparatus that prevents developer from being stuck on a developer supply path even left after a developing device is stopped, and that stably supplies developer to a developing roller when the developing device is operated again, and that can form an image of satisfactory image quality.
The image forming apparatus comprises: a developing device including a developing roller disposed opposite an image carrier and conveys developer to a developing area while holding the developer thereon, a developer amount regulating member for regulating an amount of developer conveyed on the developing roller, a developer stirring-conveying member for conveying developer while stirring it, and a developer supply roller for supplying developer, disposed upstream of the developing roller and downstream of the developer stirring-conveying member in the conveying direction of developer, to the developing roller; and a control section for controlling the developing device. The control section exerts control such that when the developing device is stopped, developer remaining in a developer conveyance path between the developing roller and developer supply roller is discharged from the developer supply roller, and the developing device is stopped after that.
