When a normal image forming operation is started, a toner image of a first color is formed on a photoreceptor 1K. At the same time (or after the lapse of a short time), a toner image for a toner processing mode is formed on one of photoreceptors 1M, C, Y, which are located downstream. For example, the forming of the toner image for the toner processing mode is started on the photoreceptor 1Y and is completed before starting a normal image forming operation on the photoreceptor 1Y, and then a normal image forming operation is performed. For the toner image for the toner processing mode on an intermediate transfer belt 10, secondary transfer to a transfer paper sheet is not performed. Rather, it is conveyed to a belt cleaning device 19 as it is and is scraped and removed by a belt cleaning blade 19a.
