To form high-quality images on both the surfaces of recording paper by cooling a fixed toner image already formed on the 1st surface of the recording paper in the case of forming the image on the 2nd surface of the recording paper between a transferring and fixing position and a peeling position.

The recording paper 118 heated and pressured by a heat roll 112 and a pressure roll 113 is carried to the right side by an intermediate transfer body belt 110. While the paper 118 is being carried, heat from the belt 110 is transmitted to the color image 122 on the 2nd surface side of the paper 118 and toner constituting the color image 122 is sufficiently developed to fix the color image 122 on the 2nd surface of the paper 118 with the heat. On the other hand, air is made to blow off the color image 123 on the 1st surface side of the paper 118 by a cooling device 121 so as to sufficiently cool the color image 123 by the air, whereby the quality of the color image 123 is held.
