PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus configured to prevent reduction in image reading accuracy.SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus 6 includes an optical unit 70 which performs scanning in a sub-scanning direction to read an image of a document, and a rail part 80 supporting the optical unit 70 in a slidable manner. The optical unit 70 includes a sliding part 65b for sliding in contact with the rail part 80, multiple pairs of holding parts 65c holding the rail part 80, and a compression coil spring 69. A surface of the sliding part 65b has a substantially circular-arc cross section. The rail part 80 includes two inclined planes 80a in contact with the substantially circular-arc surface at two spots when viewed in a sub-scanning direction. The holding part 65c arranged on the other side in the sub-scanning direction and on one side in a main-scanning direction is biased toward the rail part 80 by the compression coil spring 69. The holding part 65c arranged on the other side in the sub-scanning direction and on the other side in the main- scanning direction is not biased by the compression coil spring 69.
