PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability for a user.SOLUTION: An image reading device includes: a device body; an opening/closing unit that is supported relative to the device body in a rotatable manner around a hinge shaft; an urging unit that urges the opening/closing unit in an opening direction, and urges the opening/closing unit so as to generate a moment around the hinge shaft larger than a moment around the hinge shaft generated by the weight of the opening/closing unit when the opening/closing unit is located within a range from a position closed relative to the device body to a predetermined rotation angle, and generate a moment around the hinge shaft equivalent to the moment around the hinge shaft generated by the weight of the opening/closing unit when the opening/closing unit is opened beyond the predetermined rotation angle; and a holding unit that holds the opening/closing unit at the closed position.
