PURPOSE: To reduce the operating frequency of a key switch part of an image recording/retrieving device by switching an initial or retrieved screen to a record execution screen or its immediately preceding screen when an original is put on its placing table while the initial or retrieved screen is shown.
CONSTITUTION: When a disk is put into an image recording/retrieving device after the application of a power supply, an input mode, etc., are read out of the disk and stored in a main body memory. At this time, when an original S is put on an original placing table 1, that fact is detected by an original detecting part, and a 3rd screen is directly displayed without displaying the initial and second screens. In other words, the execution of a recording operation is judged instead of a retrieving operation when the original S is put on the table 1 after the disk is put into the recording/retrieving device. So that two operations of a user can be omitted. Meanwhile, it is just needed for the user to show the second screen when the original detecting part detects the original S in such a case where the input mode is frequently changed for each recording operation.
