To provide an imaging apparatus which achieves, through fewer simpler operations, photographing with fewer errors when another apparatus is attached to the imaging apparatus, without degrading the operability of the imaging apparatus in regular use, and to provide a control method for the imaging apparatus, and a control program for the imaging apparatus and a recording medium.

The imaging apparatus includes at least: an imaging apparatus operating means; a first detecting means for detecting an operating state of the imaging apparatus operating means; a zoom control means; and a second detecting means for detecting a mode state. The zoom control means permits automatic control of zooming toward the wide side and telephoto-side. Zooming is automatically set to the wide end when the first detecting means detects that the imaging apparatus operating means is not operated, the second detecting means detects a second mode state, and a predetermined time has elapsed from the last zoom adjustment by the zoom control means.
