To maintain a high dynamic range upon change in luminance of a subject.
An imaging apparatus includes: exposure condition calculation means which calculates exposure conditions for imaging means which generates an imaging signal by photoelectrically converting a subject image at a predetermined period, the exposure conditions being determined by storage time at the imaging means, and an amount of amplification and an aperture value of the imaging signal in accordance with subject luminance calculated from the imaging signal output from the imaging means; and image generation means which generates an HDR image by combining a plurality of images for synthesis continuously captured under a plurality of different exposure conditions. If level differences of the plurality of exposure conditions are the same, the exposure condition calculation means calculates the plurality of exposure conditions so as to follow change by changing the storage time when the subject luminance changes from a first value to a second value, and to follow change by changing the amount of amplification while fixing the storage time when the subject luminance changes from a third value to a fourth value which are luminance values smaller than the first value and the second value.
