Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device which can pickup high-definition moving images and still images.
SOLUTION: In the image pickup device using a high-pixel image pickup element with the number of pixels being about N times as large as the number of output lines, the device comprises a image pickup element to output signals of about 1/N lines of the pixels in the vertical direction, by vertically thinning the signals accumulated in each pixel of the image pickup element at an N-pixel period or by mixing the signals. Further, the device comprises a driving circuit to drive the pickup element so as to output pixel signals of a predetermined number of output lines by thinning and mixing, and a signal processing circuit to generate moving images by using the pixel signals output from the image pickup element.
