PURPOSE: To increase the conversion performance of a synthetic gas into hydrocarbons by carrying a catalytically effective amt. of cobalt on a titania carrier prepared by compounding a specified amt. of an inorg. oxide binder such as alumina, zirconia and silica.
CONSTITUTION: An inorg. oxide binder selected from alumina, zirconia and silica is compounded and mixed by 0.1 to 20 wt.% in a titania carrier to form a titania catalyst carrier. Then a catalytically effective amt. of active cobalt is dispersed and carried on the titania carrier containing the inorg. oxide binder to produce a titania catalyst. As for the titania carrier, a carrier having 0.2 to 0.5 cc/g pore volume and 8 to 70 m2/g surface area is preferably used, and it is preferable that the titania which constitutes the carrier has at least 3:2 weight ratio of rutile to anatase structures.
