Abstract:

To enable injected fuel to be contained in a cavity even when fuel is injected at an early stage, resulting in enlargement of an operation region where stratified charge combustion can be effected, in a cylinder direct injection type engine to produce stratified charge air-fuel mixture by injecting fuel directly in a cavity.

The cylinder direct injection engine is provided with a crank shaft 42; a piston 3 slidably contained in a cylinder 22 and having a cavity 31 formed in a crown surface; a fuel injection valve 14 to inject fuel toward the cavity; and double link type piston crank mechanisms (40, 41, and 44) coupled to the piston 3, the crank shaft 42, and an engine element 2 and altering the piston motion of the piston.
