NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formulaI[R1 and R4 are H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxyl or nitro; R3 is H, lower alkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, etc.; R2 is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, a group of formula II (R is lower alkylene; R5 and R6 are H, lower alkyl or together with the adjacent N form a heterocyclic ring, etc.), etc.]and an acid addition salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 3,7-Dimethyl-5-hydroxyethyl-7H-indolo[2,3-c]isoquinoline.
USE: An antitumor agent.
PROCESS: A compound of formula III (X is halogen) is reacted with an amine compound of the formula R2NH2 in a solvent, e.g. ether or tetrahydrofuran, under heating to give the compound of formulaI.
