Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel device for assisting protection of an occupant in a vehicle.
SOLUTION: The device 10 for assisting protection of the occupant of the vehicle 12 equipped with a side structure 16 is provided with an inflatable vehicle occupant protection device 14. The inflatable vehicle occupant protection device can be inflated to a position between the side structure of the vehicle and the vehicle occupant. The device 10 is equipped with an inflator 22 for inflating the inflatable vehicle occupant protection device and maintaining it in the inflated condition at least for five seconds. The inflator stores a storage inflation fluid under a pressurized condition. The inflation fluid is formed of substantially helium.
