To improve operability by displaying a mark expressing an unrecognizable character on an input area to which the character is inputted when an inputted handwritten character can not be recognized and reinputting a handwritten character to the input area.
When a handwritten character is inputted to a handwriting input pad in an input device 1 by the use of a pen, a main control part 33 converts analog data inputted from the input device 1 into digital data. Handwritten character data inputted from an input frame are temporarily stored in a main memory 51 and recognized by the control part 33. Simultaneously with the storage of the inputted handwritten character data in the memory 51, the data are stored also in a display memory 54 and displayed on a display device 2. When the inputted character can not be recognized, a mark indicating unrecognizability is displayed on an input area to which the character is inputted, the reinput of a handwritten character to the input area is received and a reinput function capable of inputting the character to the position to be inputted is executed.
