To provide a bar code reader capable of simply and quickly reading out a bar code by arranging an irradiating position indicating part consisting of a long member along the width direction of a body irradiation part in the front of the irradiation part.
The bar code reader 10 is portable and consists of a body 11 and a frame 21. The frame 21 has the irradiating, position indicating part 22 on its tip. The indicating part 22 is an approximation for the irradiating position and width of a laser beam applied from the body irradiation part 13 so as to simply and correctly irradiate a bar code with the laser beam. The indicating part 22 is constituted of a long member formed along the width direction of the irradiation part 13 and arranged on a position separated from the front 14 of the irradiation part 13 by a prescribed distance. Since the lateral width (d) of the indicating part 22 is set up so as to be almost equal to the lateral width of a bar code or larger than that, the matching of width between the bar code and the laser beam can be more easily executed.
