PURPOSE: To obtain a low-cost and long-life infrared ray lamp by using a filament consisting of carbide of a high fusing point.
CONSTITUTION: A bulb 1 of glass is not provided with a reflecting means by aluminum deposition or the like, and a filament 6 is disposed in the bulb 1. Carbide such as TaC or MoC can be applied for this filament 6. Carbide such as TaC or MoC has a good heat radiation property among ceramic materials of high fusing points, so by using the carbide for the filament 6 of a infrared ray lamp, a necessary heating quantity can be secured without providing a reflecting means. The heat radiation efficiency of the filament 6 can thus be improved, and time till breakage is extended, thereby a low-cost and long-life infrared ray lamp can be obtained.
