Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ingot making method for obtaining a cast ingot free from any macro-segregation or loose structure in carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, Ni-based superalloy, or the like.
SOLUTION: A cast ingot 1 containing a non-solidified molten metal 7 from an inner part to an upper end part thereof is taken out of a mold, at least one part of a side surface of the cast ingot is continuously stricken to solidify the ingot while giving a vibration to the cast ingot. The side surface of the cast ingot is preferably stricken while the center solid phase ratio at the position equivalent to the center of the height, the width and the thickness of the cast ingot is between 0.1 and 0.8. Reduction of a part of the side surfaces facing each other of the cast ingot is started immediately when the striking of the side surfaces of the cast ingot is started, or after the striking is started, and the cast ingot is preferably reduced before the interface of at least the solid phase ratio of 0.7 on both sides of the inner part of the cast ingot at the reduction position is pressed.
