To provide an ink set having smooth gradation properties, and excellent fastness such as light resistance, and capable of recording an image with excellent color development by a smaller amount of imparted ink.
There is provided an ink set having a combination of a light-color ink containing a first colorant and a deep-color ink containing a second colorant. The first colorant is a compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein, rings A, B, C and D are each independently a benzene ring or a heterocycle; R1 is alkyl; R2 is alkylene; X is anilino having one or more sulfonate groups; m is, in average, a number of >0.0 and <3.9; n is, in average, a number of ≥0.1 and <4.0; the sum of m and n is, in average, a number of ≥1.0 and <4.0), and the second colorant is a compound represented by general formula (2). The light-color ink further contains ethylene urea.
