To improve the estimation accuracy of an expansion pressure in a technique with which the expansion pressure of coal charged in a coke oven is estimated.
In an estimating method of estimating an expansion pressure of coal to be carbonized in a coke over on the basis of the measured result obtained by measuring a vitrinite reflectance of coal charged into a coke oven, the coal includes a plurality of peaks in the vitrinite reflectance distribution and the expansion pressure of the whole coal is estimated by forming the reflectance distribution corresponding to each peak into a normal distribution, the expansion pressure is estimated using the average value of the reflectance in each normal distribution and the expansion pressure of the whole coal is estimated by weighted averaging the expansion pressure estimated by the content ratio of vitrinite structure contained in each peak to the whole vitrinite structure.
