Abstract:

To provide a system with a variable air flow control valve for controlling an inlet flow while suppressing the fluctuation of an air-fuel ratio due to fuel residing near the valve and the malfunction of the valve to reliably form an tumble flow in a cylinder.

The system comprises: the variable air flow control valve 34 to be driven to open/close with the upper part of an inlet passage 12 as a supporting point for controlling the inlet flow fed into the cylinder of an internal combustion engine 10; and a storage part 12a provided in the inlet passage 12 for storing the variable air flow control valve 34 when fully opened. The variable air flow control valve 34 has a through-hole 34b through which the inlet flow passes. When the variable air flow control valve 34 is fully closed, the through-hole 34b is located on the upper side of the inlet passage 12.
