Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve water-vapor resistance and adhesiveness of resin by treating the surface of inorganic oxide particles with an organosilicon compound of a specific formula.
CONSTITUTION: 100 pts.wt. inorganic oxide particles such as fused silica having 100μm-1nm particle diameter are dispersed into a mixed solution of a water/ alcohol mixed solution having dissolved ≥0.5 pt.wt., preferably 5-20 pts.wt. organosilicon compound of formula I (R is nonsubstituted or substituted monofunctional hydrocarbon group; X is hydrolyzable group; (n) is 1-3; (m) is 0-1) such as a compound of formula II. Then, the dispersion is reacted at room temperature or a reflux temperature of the solvent at a reflux preferably for a given time to give inorganic oxide particles coated with an organosilicon compound of formula III by condensation reaction between -OH group on the surface of the inorganic oxide particles and the hydrolyzable group in the organosilicon compound. 100 pts.wt. synthetic resin is blended with 10-1,000 pts.wt. of the inorganic oxide particles subjected to surface treatment to improve water-vapor resistance and adhesiveness of the resin.
