NEW MATERIAL:A cyano compound shown by formula I (R1 is H, cyano or 1-4C alkyl; m is 0 or 1; R2 is H or 1-6C alkyl, 3-4C alkenyl, 3-4C alkynyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl, etc.; R3 is -O-R4, -S-R4, group shown by formula II, etc.; R4 is 1-6C alkyl, 3-4C alkenyl, etc.; R5 and R6 are H, 1-9C alkyl, etc., or R5 and R6 are bonded with neighboring N to form 3-7-membered ring, etc.).

EXAMPLE: S-Methyl-N-(2-chloro-5-pyridylmethyl)-N'-cyanoisothiourea.

USE: Useful as an insecticide having no phytotoxicity to culture plants and showing properly controlling effects on harmful insects, acarids and nematodes.

PREPARATION: For example, a compound shown by formula III (Z is 5-6- membered heterocyclic group) is reacted with a compound shown by formula IV to give a compound shown by formula I.
