PURPOSE: To estimate the degree of deterioration in the insulation of the electric appliances by utilizing the behavior of the number of hydrogen atom per the number of carbon atom of the monitoring material at nondestructive testing.
CONSTITUTION: Proper number of resin pieces made as the monitoring material using the insulated resin the same as that composing the insulation of the electric appliance to be measured is incorporated into the electric appliance prior to the start of the operation in such a manner as to be removable. At an appropriate time interval, for example, the resin pieces are picked up one at a time at a proper timing to measure the number of hydrogen atom and the number of carbon atom with an element analyser so that the ratio between the two numbers of atom is calculated. In this manner, variations in the ratio of the two numbers of atom in the insulation resin are determined during the operation time to estimate the degree of the deterioration of the appliance from the relation between the drop in the insulation breakdown voltage accompanied by the heat deterioration precalculated by use of the model of the same insulation arrangement as that in the actual appliance and the variations.
