Abstract:
To provide a technology which can inject a proper flame in response to an operation situation of an engine, in an internal combustion engine with a sub-combustion chamber.SOLUTION: A sub-combustion chamber 12 comprises a housing 15 formed with a torch 16 at a lower end, and a plurality of ignition plugs 13, 14 different in heights at lower ends are attached to the housing 15. Combustion spaces 19, 20 are formed in response to both the ignition plugs 13, 14, and the combustion spaces 19, 20 communicate with a center hole 18. When the first ignition plug 13 is ignited, a long and strong flame is created, and when the second ignition plug 14 is ignited, a short flame is created. For example, when in-cylinder pressure is low, the flame is prevented from arriving at an inner face of a cylinder bore 4 by using the second plug 14, and a cooling loss is thus suppressed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
