PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate attachment and detachment of a scraper ring.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 1 according to an embodiment of the invention includes a cylinder liner 22, a step 33 formed on an inner peripheral surface 31 and an upper end 32 of the cylinder liner, and a scraper ring 35 arranged in the step with a radial gap 34. The scraper ring is formed of a material having a thermal expansion coefficient larger than that of the cylinder liner, and the gap 34 in operation of the internal combustion engine is smaller than the gap 34 in stopping of the internal combustion engine, and the gap 34 exists in operation of the internal combustion engine.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
