Abstract:
To provide an internal combustion engine that, by smoothly forming a tumble vortex flow without hindrance to scavenge an auxiliary combustion chamber, can increase filling efficiency of an air-fuel mixture to improve ignitability, increase a combustion speed in a main combustion chamber and improve lean combustion operation performance.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine has an intake passage (31) that is divided into a main intake passage (31m) and a tumble intake passage (Ft) by a partition wall (39). An auxiliary combustion chamber housing (60; 90), which forms an auxiliary combustion chamber (Cs) in the inside, is provided with its bottom wall (60b; 90b) facing a main combustion chamber (Cm) from a combustion chamber ceiling surface (4b). A plurality of injection ports (61; 91), which put the auxiliary combustion chamber (Cs) into communication with the main combustion chamber (Cm), are formed radially in the bottom wall portion (60b; 90b) of the auxiliary combustion chamber (60; 90), and a spark plug (65) is provided with a discharge electrode (65a) at the tip facing the auxiliary combustion chamber (Cs).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
