PURPOSE: To reduce the generation of offensive odor at the time of ignition and prevent flames shooting upright by setting the position of pushing down a wick height adjusting lever which is lowered by an ignition lever for operating ignition position a little shorter from the lowest position of pushing down.
CONSTITUTION: An ignition lever 9 is pushed down. A pushing-down piece 10 pushes a contact piece 12 of a fire extinguishing plate 11 to the fire extinguishing plate 11. A contact section 9' for lifting the wick of the ignition lever 9 hits against the ignition contact section 8' of a wick height adjusting lever 8 to push down the lever 8. When an ignition device is actuated by the lever 9, the pin 16 of the fire extinguishing plate 11 is engaged by a sensing lever 17 to maintain the state of combustion. The lever 8 is pushed by the lever 9 to be set at the state of combustion. A gap is developed between a stopper 11' for restricting a highest position of the wick of the fire extinguishing plate 11 and the lever, and the state of combustion after ignition can be maintained automatically at a position lower than that for the state of maximum combustion. With this arrangement the flames never shoot upright from a combustion cylinder when the flames are left free after ignition. Further the generation of unburned gas at the time of ignition is little because of the large area of exposure of the wick and the effect of reducing the generation of offensive odor after ignition is achieved. Consequently pleasant and safe space heating can be provided with no flames shooting upright without adjusting the height of the wick after ignition.
