Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a kneaded material from which a coated arc welding rod having uniform quality and good appearance is obtainable at a good yield in a compounding method in which water glass is charged and kneaded to and with the powder and granular flux in a kneading device by spraying the water glass under pressure.

CONSTITUTION: A prescribed amt. of water glass WG is first fed through a replenishing pipe 8 into a weighing device 2 by closing valves V1, V3, opening a valve V4 and opening a valve V2 and thereafter the valves V2, V4 are closed. Charging of a powder and granular flux F into a kneading device 1 and preliminary agitation to the extent of leveling off the surface are carried out in parallel with said feeding. The valve V3 is then opened to feed compressed air through a line 9 into the device 2. When the valve V1 is opened, the water glass is fed by the air pressure through a feed line 5 into a charging pipe 6 and is thereafter sprayed under pressure atop the flux F from nozzles 11. Revolving rollers 3 are then rolled by which the water glass WG is kneaded with the flux F right after spraying.
