Abstract:

PURPOSE: To add an Mn component to a molten steel at a low cost by charging a reducing agent into the molten steel having slag contg. Mn oxide in a ladle and stirring the molten steel to reduce the Mn oxide.

CONSTITUTION: The molten steel 4 having the slag 2 contg. the Mn oxide is tapped from a converter into the ladle 6. The reducing agent such as Al is charged into the molten steel 4 in the ladle 6 and gaseous Ar is blown from a lance 8 into the molten steel to stir the molten steel 4 and the reducing agent. The Mn oxide in the slag 2 is reduced by the reducing agent and the Mn is melted into the molten steel 4, by which the Mn component is added to the molten steel 4.
