Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve gas barrier properties significantly by a simple operation by applying a water liquid containing specific alkali silicate metal salts and a silane coupling agent to the surface of a polymer molding to form a thin film.
CONSTITUTION: A laminate is obtained by applying a water liquid containing at least, 2 of SiO2/M2O (mole ratio, M is an alkali metal), preferably 2.5 to 4.8 of alkali silicate metal salts and a silane coupling agent, and thereby forming a thin film. The ratio of the silane coupling agent and the alkali silicate metal salts to be used should normally be limited to 1 to 100/100, preferably 5 to 50/100 in terms of alkoxy group of the silane coupling agent to the alkali metals of silicate (mole ratio). Thus it is possible to make a polymer molding highly gas-impermeable by a simple operation. The laminate obtained is ideally suitable for a wrapping material.
