Abstract:
To provide a technology for surely preventing pre-ignition phenomenon and misfire in an engine operated according to a pre-mix process.SOLUTION: A dual fuel large two-stroke turbocharged uniflow scavenged internal combustion engine includes: a plurality of cylinders 1; a piston 10 reciprocating in each cylinder: a fuel admission valve 30 admitting a first fuel during a stroke from BDC to TDC, of each piston; at least one fuel injection valve 50 for injecting a second fuel when the piston is at or near TDC; and a controller configured to determine whether actual combustion conditions of the cylinders operating according to a pre-mix process are such that there is an unacceptable risk for pre-ignition events or misfires, and to change, upon determining the presence of the risk, at least one of the cylinders from the operation according to the pre-mix process to an operation according to a compression-ignition process.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
