PURPOSE: To prevent pre-excitation sparks more than required and make a main discharge circuit having no spark gap smaller in size by adding pre- excitation capacitors and pre-excitation spark gaps to the main discharge circuit in parallel.
CONSTITUTION: A main discharge circuit to perform main discharge with peaking capacitors 1 and main discharge electrodes 3 is formed and a series circuit consisting of pre-excitation capacitors 13 and pre-excitation spark gaps 2 is connected in parallel to the peaking capacitors 1. Main discharge can be performed mainly with the circuit not including the pre-excitation spark gaps and pre-excitation of required and sufficient intensity can be performed mainly with the series circuit consisting of the pre-excitation capacitors 13 and pre- excitation spark gaps 2. Pre-excitation spark more than required and wear of the spark gaps are thus prevented for stable operation for a long time.
