Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of clearance on a mounting part of a lash adjuster and prevent abrasion by mounting a valve mechanism capable of permitting only the flow of oil from a reserver chamber of the lash adjuster to a hydraulic chamber in a plunger body, and expanding and contracting the lush adjuster by the flowing in and out of the oil.
SOLUTION: When a cam is rotated in a fully closed state of an engine valve and the downward driving force is applied to a stem plunger 42, the oil in a hydraulic chamber 24 is pressurized. When the oil pressure is higher than that in a reserver tank 26, a path 28 is closed by a check ball 34. As a result, the driving force transmitted to a plunger 22 is transmitted to a plunger body 12, and a valve is closed. Here, the oil in the hydraulic chamber 24 gradually leaks out via a sliding surface between the plunger 22 and the plunger body 12, which causes the shrinkage of a lash adjuster 10. Then the oil flows from the reserver chamber 26 into the hydraulic chamber 24 when the lash adjuster 10 is upwardly displaced, and initial state can be recovered.
