To more securely prevent a side door from being displaced toward the vehicle interior inside a vehicle body due to impact force in a collision of the vehicle to effectively obtain protection of an occupant while enabling productivity of the vehicle body to be preferably maintained.

The lateral structure of a vehicle comprises: a door opening 39 that is formed in a lateral wall 12 of a vehicle body 2; a side door 40 closing openably the door opening 39 from outside of the vehicle body 2; a floor panel 11 that extends from a lower opening edge of the door opening 39 toward inside the vehicle body 2 to form a lower face of a vehicle interior 10; a seat device 23 placed on the floor panel 11 to be adjacent to the lower opening edge inside the vehicle body 2 relative to the lower opening edge; and a scuff plate 80 placed to cover the lower opening edge from the upper side thereof. An edge portion, inside the vehicle body 2, of the scuff plate 80 is bent upward or downward to form a bent portion 84 and the bent portion 84 is arranged in vicinity to a lateral portion of the seat device 23.
