PURPOSE: To obtain exact stoppage accuracy and shorten a drive control time in a lens driving device of camera by setting a time for turning on the device in accordance with the speed of a photointerruptor of one pulse before when it is turned on in the neighboring part of a focus when automatic focusing is performed by using curve control.

CONSTITUTION: A camera body 1 is composed of a BCPU(body control CPU) 3 and a focus detecting circuit 4 connected to the CBPU3. An interchangeable lens 2 is composed of a LCPU(lens control CPU) 5 connected to the CBPU3, an AF motor 7 receiving the driving instruction from the LCPU5 through a motor driver 6, transmission mechanisms 8-10 transmitting the driving force of the motor 7, a photographing lens 11 and a rotating encoder composed of a slit plate 12 provided on the transmission mechanism 8 and a photointerrupter 13. Communication lines 14, 15 transmitting a lens driving amount and specific lens information are provided between the BCPU3 and the LCPU5.
