To provide a light emitting device capable of preferably enhancing luminance of output light and reducing power consumption by effectively utilizing light unused as functional light while using light which is emitted from a light emitting element and has permeated a substrate as the functional light, and to also provide a lighting system and a display device.
This lighting system 100 is equipped with the translucent substrate 110 and the organic EL element 120 provided on the translucent substrate 110, and outputs light which is emitted from the organic EL element 120 and has permeated the translucent substrate 110 as illumination light. The system is provided with a light emitting circuit 164 to supply a driving power to the organic EL element 120, a photoelectric conversion element 150 to convert light components other than the illumination light out of the light emitted from the organic El element 120 by intercepting it after taking it out from the side end face 110a of the translucent substrate 110 to electric power, an internal charge circuit 161 to supply the electric power generated in the photoelectric conversion element 150 to the light emitting circuit 164, and a battery 162.
