To provide a projector capable of decreasing out-of-plane ghost.

The projector 100 uses a light guide device 224 having a light guide member whose one end is set as an incident port and whose other end is set as an emitting port, and a light shielding plates 242 at least in the vicinity of either or both of the incident port and the emitting port of the light guide member, wherein the light shielding plate 242 has an aperture part 245 whose size and shape are approximate to those of the end of the light guide member, and the aperture part 245 is formed in distorted rectangular shape that the angle of a corner opposite to a right-angle corner is an acute angle and the angles of two corners adjacent to the acute angle are obtuse angles, so that the cross section of the bundle of rays of emitted light transmitted through the light guide member is made distorted rectangular shape.
