To reduce luminance unevenness and color unevenness when LEDs having different luminous characteristics are used as light sources.
In a planar light source 34, a light source unit 15 including high-luminance LEDs 18a to 18d and high-color rendering LEDs 19a to 19c is arranged facing the side surface 16a of a light guide plate 16. The light guide plate 16 is provided on the side surface 16a with notches 21 to 28 wherein the notches 21 to 28 have surfaces 21a to 28a convexedly curved outward, to reflect light emitted from the high-luminance LEDs 18b, 18c and high-color rendering LEDs 19a, 19c of the light source unit 15. Thereby, light rays having different luminous characteristics are mixed to reduce the generation of luminance unevenness and color unevenness in a liquid crystal panel.
