Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an optically protecting topical composition containing solvohydroxamic acid and useful for protecting the skin from a harmful effect caused by irradiation of ultraviolet rays such as sunburn, premature aging induced by the sunshine without preventing a sunburn response. CONSTITUTION: This optically protecting topical composition containing solvohydroxamic acid includes safe and optically protective amount, preferably 1-20wt.%, more preferably 2-5wt.% of the solvohydroxamic acid or its salt, and safe and optically effective amount of topical carrier, and preferably has a lotion, cream, gel, aerosol spray, cosmetic foundation or lip color form. The compound penetrates into the skin and prevents a damaging reaction in the skin by the radical captive and photochemical reaction scavenging activities in the skin, so the protecting effect is not affected by scraping, wearing out or washing out of the active ingredient. The compound is preferably applied to the skin in 0.01-1.0mg/cm<2> , preferably 0.05-0.5mg/cm<2> until 4hr before exposure of the skin to the ultraviolet rays.
