To provide a light source device improving the luminance, and to provide a projector including the same.
The projector includes: the light source device; a display element; a projector control means and the like. The light source device includes: a fluorescent wheel having a fluorescence light emission area where a phosphor layer emitting green band light on receiving excitation light is formed, and a diffuse transmission area diffusing and transmitting light, on a rotation controllable base material; an excitation light source irradiating the phosphor with the excitation light of a blue wavelength band; a light-emitting element emitting red band light; a condensing optical system condensing light from the fluorescent wheel and light from the light-emitting element on the same optical path; and a light source control means controlling the light emission of the excitation light source and the light-emitting element. The green phosphor has such characteristics that even when it receives high density excitation light, little fluorescence saturation is caused.
